Self-care tips

We all get stressed out, whether it’s due to work, family, friends, or mental health, feeling stressed is a horrible sensation that causes you to feel an abundance of emotions. As a student, I have experienced my fair of stress and decided to share some of my favourite self-care tip which makes me feel a lot better when I’m feeling down.
Take a nap
This is one of my favourite things to do when I am feeling stressed. I understand it might be difficult to nap but even closing your eyes for ten minutes can really calm you down. If I have a lot of work, I know I won’t be able to concentrate properly if I’m stressed, so I close my eyes and focus on my breathing for a bit.
You don’t have to be an expert to know how to meditate. I tend to focus on my breathing and my energy. After practicing for a few months, it gets easier to block out negative energy, calming you down instantly. This also helps greatly with my focus when studying.
Take a bath or a shower
If you can, a lovely hot bubble bath is the perfect way to chill after a stressful day. Alternatively, for those who don’t have bathtubs (hey students), a hot shower is a great way to relieve tension and can be just as effective as having a bath.
Light a candle
I grab myself a cup of tea, go to my bedroom, sit at my desk with a lit candle, and read through some of my favorite blogs. Having a candle lit is very soothing, but make sure you set it up correctly, don’t leave it unattended, and have it in a safe place.
Cook a meal
I’ve recently gotten into cooking and experimenting with recipes as, as a student, I spent the past year living off pasta, but am now expanding my skills. One of my current favorites is seasoned grilled chicken with brown rice and veggies. Easy, healthy, and super delicious.
Take a walk
There is nothing more therapeutic than taking a walk when you are feeling stressed. At university, I take daily walks to ensure I get some air and clear my head, finding it a very useful way to calm myself down if I’m feeling stressed. I usually went with a friend or two but, if I went alone, I listened to some music, but stay aware of your surroundings if you do this.
Netflix is one of the greatest creations on Earth. When I’m feeling down, I’ll grab some snacks, get into my coziest pajamas, crawl into bed, and binge watch Netflix. It’s a great way to relax after a long day.
Talk to someone
One of the best cures can simply be to talk to someone, a friend or family member. If I’m stressed, my friends usually pop over to keep me company. If you have no one to chat to, message me on Twitter @itsactuallyhan as I’m always online.
